Bri at The People Picture Co. has been working with the YWCA summer camps for young women since 2015. This year she and the YWCA decided to do something a little different than in the past. Bri developed a small lesson and discussion for the young women enrolled in this year's Activist Academy to think about how photography plays a role in social change. Using their interests and knowledge of social media, the ladies discussed how they could create their own activism through photography and citizen journalism (self-publishing) online. Bri talked about her own experience with her Go Boldly Campaign and Veronica Kirin showcased her own project and spoke with the girls from her own experience.
After the discussion, they all walked over to The People Picture Company's studio and took a photograph of themselves and then went to photograph their own photojournalism along Division street. Take a look at the day below. Bri and Veronica had a great time with these young, empowered women!
