Bri from the People Picture Co here! Recently I had my own maternity session photographed by the lovely Kristina Bird at our company. I really wanted to have a unique and fun session, so we did some indoor studio photos with white lace as well as a a black dress. Then, we moved onto an outdoor location in the Michigan snow.
Here's a little more about why I decided to make my session a little different than others I had done for myself. Pregnancy has been wonderful, but it has also been very tiring. You are growing a human and your body is working hard day and night to create this little being. One thing I wanted to share is to not overextend yourself. I'm used to working more than 40 hours a week. However, during my pregnancy, I've learned this is too much for my body. Prioritizing my time, delegating, and getting a lot of work done without exhausting myself helps leave room for my body and mind to relax.
Because of this experience, when scheduling and planning my maternity session, I decided to make it special, more than just a photographer taking photos. It was about making time for myself and baby to get pampered. :) I booked a makeup artist, hair stylist and florist. Now don't get me wrong, I feel beautiful, even without my hair and makeup done, but there's great value in doing something different, and special every once in awhile that can be relaxing! So, regardless of whether you plan to have a maternity session or no session at all, make sure to appreciate yourself and your body for what it is doing during your pregnancy. Take care of you and you'll be taking care of baby-to-be at the same time.
