It took Amina 4 and a half years to finish School and she got my degree in English Language Arts and Elementary Education. While at GVSU, She got to study abroad and spend 7 weeks in Ourense, Spain for part of her student teaching. On campus, She worked at the Office of Multicultural Affairs throughout undergrad and was involved with their Multicultural Cohort Program, which focused on providing underrepresented students with resources to succeed in college. Amina served as the President of the Muslim Students Association (MSA) as well, which allowed her to get involved with interfaith work on campus and in West Michigan. She worked closely with the Kaufman Interfaith Institute serving on local panels in churches, schools, and universities that want to foster dialogue on interfaith engagement as well as on Islam. Last year, along with students from local colleges (Aquinas, Calvin and Hope) she planned the first Michigan based Interfaith conference that aimed to bring together student leaders to learn from each other how it is they can foster interfaith dialogue and service on their campus. Right now Amina works as an English Language (EL) teacher in Kentwood public schools. Her job is to work closely with students who speak a language other than English at home to help them build their English language skills. Amina says that she is blessed to be working with kids who speak over seventeen different languages and teach me something new every day!
Amina is one of our college graduates that through the photographs she was able to capture her accomplishments and be proud of what she has done. She loves reading and learning so we had her bring some of her favorite books to the shoot.
Thank you again Amina for participating in our college graduate promotion and good luck with all of your goals! Read More
